Gigi Hadid Rules the Versace Runway at Couture Fashion Week
There’s always an undercurrent of strength that runs in designer Donatella Versace’s creations—only a girl who’s comfortable in her own skin can really (and self-assuredly) rock a Versace signature that boasts thigh-high slits and skin-revealing cut-outs slashed every which way. For her spring 2016 couture collection, that kind of strength was greater than ever, manifesting itself in sporty-sexy designs, or “athletic couture,” catered to “women who move to the beat of their own drum.”
“I believe women can be powerful and achieve their dreams while also having great elegance and beauty,” Versace says. “This is a collection for all women who walk their own path.”
The Atelier Versace collection was a celebration of the female form, with caged cut-outs, panels molded to fit every curve, ergnomically embroidered lines, and deconstructed gowns and tuxes held together with knotted Swarovski ropes, revealing glimpses of skin. A collection that fierce naturally called for an equally fierce line-up of supermodels, including Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Behati Prinsloo, Lara Stone, and, last but not least—Gigi Hadid who closed the show, marching down the runway in a way that proved that yes, girls run the world.
